‘BEST OF YEAR’ AND OTHER ACCOLADES FOR MYRIAD BOOKS…

BECOMING UNBECOMING by Una continues to take North America by storm with ‘Best of Year’ selections in the New York Times and O: The Oprah Magazine (‘her book is a roar on behalf of women all over the world’) and features in Newsweek and other media. It is also a Top Ten choice for The Quietus: ‘one of the most powerful graphic works I have ever read’.

THE LAST PILOT by Benjamin Johncock, winner of the Author’s Club Best First Novel Award, was Anthony Quinn’s ‘Hidden Gem of 2016’ in the Observer: ‘a brilliant pastiche of distinct American classics…striking grasp of the intricacies of life among test pilots’.

Henny Beaumont’s HOLE IN THE HEART  was Foreword’s Reviewer’s Choice: 14 Favourites of 2016 — ‘a deeply affecting graphic novel… the book’s message is universal’ — and a Top Ten choice for The Quietus  where it is described as ‘brave and brilliant, life affirming’.

Douglas Cowie’s fictionalised account of the long and turbulent affair between Simone de Beauvoir and Chicago author Nelson Algren, NOON IN PARIS, EIGHT IN CHICAGO, was The Literary Sofa’s Book of 2016: ‘This tender and vividly imagined novel simply couldn’t be more my kind of thing: France, America, writers, complicated love – I absolutely adored it.’

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MARIE! by Jade Sarson, winner of the 2014 First Graphic Novel Competition, was one of Andy Oliver’s top three picks (‘an absolute revelation’) for Best of 2016 at Forbidden Planet and has been nominated for two Broken Frontier Awards: Best Original Graphic Novel and Best Breakout Talent.

‘A sublime masterclass in suspense’ is how bestselling author Clare Mackintosh describes Elizabeth Haynes’s new novel, NEVER ALONE. Staking out the territory with ‘rural noir’, two dogs and some breathtakingly scary scenes, it is already ringing with endorsements from fellow crime writers, including Alex Marwood, Mark Edwards and our own Lesley Thomson
